How Supporting Women and Girls in Birding Hotspots Supports Bird Conservation

August 31, 2021

What’s the connection between bird conservation and advocacy for women and girls living in birding hotspots? This month’s Bird Watcher’s Digest features my article addressing this exact question, with the focus on a specific project in Colombia initiated by the conservation organization Women for Conservation.

Women for Conservation is a Colombian country-national, women-run organization dedicated to outreach to local communities residing in Colombia’s Important Bird Areas (IBAs) as a result of need identified by Fundacion ProAves (Colombia’s premier bird conservation organization).

I interview Sara Ines Lara and Isabella Cortes (founder and Conservation Director, respectively), the mother daughter duo behind the effort.

Want to learn more about this important connection between women’s opportunity and bird conservation? You can read the article here.

Thoughts from the field

I’m Bryony and I write and speak about birding culture.

Here is where I share my latest publications and projects in the niche of recreational birding, birding people doing cool things, conscientious consumerism (specifically as a birder), and birding travel.
